I have BT 512K line at home, I have manage to get a different modem....!!

This one, if i plug this in, will it work... use same user name password etc....!

Will BT tell me off cos its faster i think

What kind of transfer rates do you get at the mo? Any modem is better than the voyager ( i think) that bt supplies

Why would he want a router with built in modem tho?
And it doesnt have USB as it connects via ethernet

It has been said that USB dsl modems, can actually slow down download speeds. I personally would use a router. I got the dg814. It works good but would not recoment it

don't know to be honest. Something to do with the amount of power drawn from the PC. I could be taling shite, but i did notice some difference when i changed mine

USB ADSL modems draw a hell of a lot of power through the USB port, so make sure you're using the primary USB port, or else it could cause problems (above and beyond the slow-ness and unreliability of any USB modem).
As other people have suggested, go for a router......or, if you don't want the cost of a router hanging over you, go for the happy medium: a PCI ADSL modem, can pick them up for about £25 these days.
