my head unit stopped workin so i ook it out and changed the fuse in the live wire at the back. smoke started comin out the top of my unit. Ny1 ny idea why this happened

erm maybe cos it was fooked and is now defo fooked
fuse is there for a reason. Did you replace it with a fuse of the correct rating?

em of course i did. it didnt blow the fuse wen a put a new one in, a just pulled it out straight away wen it started smokin

smoking happens when something in the unit is showing the wrong resistance. meaning that the componant gets hot and smokes. this can be caused by loads of reasons.
try talking to your local ICE store and they should be able to give you the number of somewhere who can repair the H/U.
mine has done that too, i have been quoted £50 for the repair.

i just installed an alpine head unit. first thing it said was not to block the fan at the back, yours wasn't blocked was it? this could cause overheating if it was

NEVER replace a fuse until you knew what blew it in the first place!!
Sounds to me like a power wire has been pinched by the case somwhere and shorted, making contact with the metal casing of the unit. If its not worth a lot i'd bin it and install more carefully in the future if thats the case.
