Bring up a dos box and type "shutdown -a" to abort the shutdown. Repeat as much as necessary to get the patch installed.

PRINT THIS OUT QUICKLY!!
Click Start, Run
Type services.msc
Click OK
When the Services control panel opens, scroll down the list to Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Double-Click it
When the properties for it open up, click the Recovery tab
Set all the options in there to Take No Action.
Click Apply and then OK
Restart the computer
It won't keepo restarting itself no more, giving you plenty of time to download all patches from microshafts site & also get some antivirus installed & clean it all out!

Mines being wierd at the minute. I have XP and once its booted up and the egg timer has gone away I have to wait like a minute before I can click on any folders/explorer/programmes?
during this first minute or so I can double click on desktop icons/start and nothing happens? I have to wait until I hear the floppy drive 'buzz' for a sec as though its checking for a disk and then hey presto it works properly?

You got any antivirus installed? it could be hanging the system while it loads, if not, then get some & do a scan!

yeah got Norton, although it expired 2months ago. Did a recent scan and found nowt. Its never done it before, I used to love it because it was such a dream to boot up unlike the old windows 98 crappy PC I had before, but now it takes ages to let me do anything. I have a popup blocker that I recently installed but doubt it could be that? I may just scrap it and take the harddrive back to when we first got the macine.
Also it keeps saying my virtual memory is low? I increased it not long ago to around 700mb but now it wants even more, whats causing this, is my harddrive getting too full as I only have about 700mb of space left cos its a crappy 10giger.
