Got a 1.2 8v, needs new rear shoes, asked Halfords but said there is two sizes. Two widths, I can't remember them - maybe 24mm and 44mm. Which one 
Also is it necessary to buy their 'fitting kits' - with all the springs and gubbins or what?

just tell them make model year and engine size of your car they should know what size

Measured mine yesterday and fitted 28mm wide ones. These are for the LS (1996) model for reference.
