well i drove a tuned 1.6 but it did not give the shove in the back i expected . i think the difference is the torque , 150 against 110.

what i noticed is the diference to about 100 mph , mine just seems to get there really quick while in a 1.6 your waiting, not saying it a bad thing but i think if your going to tune your car you want torque more than bhp.

1.6 16v - 161bhp -119lb ft - 17"s
2.0 16v - 155bhp - 143lb ft - 16"s

From the line, my 2.0 was faster. But going from say 40-90mph, Donnas GSi really wasn't that much slower than my car (7500rpm limit). From higher speeds, say 80+ the extra cc of the 2.0 pulls through. 2.0 is quicker over a 1/4 mile also. Call it the torque

1.6 will handle better though. Front end is a bit heavy on the 2.0, nothing a good suspension kit can't sort, but 1.6 will still be better.

For your 1.6 16v with 140bhp though, it'll get beaten.

would have to disagree, i reckon a standard 2.0 is more practical day to day, will use less fuel etc, and be easier to run

strongly agree with this...... why tune the fuck out of a 1.6 when you can have a nice torquey c20xe under the bonnet and save some pennies in the process which u can put towards coilovers innit

if you tune the engine to take more air then it needs more fuel, so if the 1.6 is tuned to the death then it'll sap more fuel mate

quite a few people dont have the extra insurance funds to go for 2litres, and a lot of other people enjoy seeing what they can do with a 1.6 engine, its a challenge

a lot of 1.6 owners i know of can actually afford the 2litre option, however they just like to see what power they can get out of a 1.6, sense of achievement and all that stuff
