Have to get new computor as my laptops shot, Im studying BEng: yacht and pwoercraft desing which utilises an awful amount of cad stuff; as such I need high ram capacity to run programmes such as Maxsurf, hydromax rhino, Autocad, 3d studio max and Photoshop
does this system seem okay to u - Im not al lthat clued up on hardware
AMD Athlon XP 3000 (333MHz)
1.0 GB DDR333 PC2700 RAM
120 GB Seagate 7200rpm Hard Drive
19" AOC 9K+ Pure Flat 0.25mm Dot Pitch Monitor
Sony 52x32x52 IDE Silver BURN proof oem + software
Sparkle GF FX5700 256MB DDR 8X AGP Video Card
(Keyboard, Mouse included)
£*******
(add £259 for a "22" Iiyama MA203 0.25 Pro 513 Montior")
and Id need an A3 printer, which of these is best - obviously the Epson will be betetr than the HP, but is it worth the extra £300 or not
HP DeskJet 9300 A3+ USB/PP Printer £290.00
Epson Stylus Photo 2100 A3 USB2/PP Printer £582.00

So do u think that seems a pretty good package - just added a few other bits, Zip drive, keyboard, mouse ( uprated ones) cr-rom/dvd & seperate cd rw burner thingy
ne other spec things that u can think of that I may need for the comp, especially as it'll be used for design work

how much you been quoted mate?
I could do you a good system.
well the graphics, ram and HD are really the most critical if you're doing a lot of high intensity graphical work. get something like the ATI radeon 9800 256MB (think thats the one) mine sthe GeForce FX5950 256MB and its the shit!!!!!

get a GB of DDR 400 Ram, faster than 333 DDR
and id go for the ATI Radeon 9800 XT 256MB DDR card rather than the GeForce one
apart from that looks like a good system

yea its a good system mate Although i run a 3000xp here and it gets hot, so i would recommend that he gets you a decent fan, ie: Coolmaster Aero with an adjustable fan speed (via a 3 1/2" slot). When ya doing your cad work, you wack the speed up - its noisey, but will keep your system cool
As for the graphics mate, read up specs on them mate. At one time, when the 256mb cards were brought out, loads of people found that they ram access on the 256mb graphics card was slower than 128mb cards. So might be worth reading about em. However, there are specialised graphics cards designed for CAD. Might be worth having a look at a few
