You can stop animated gif's from animating by pressing the Esc button after the page has loaded..
Also my version of Mozilla doesn't like animated gifs.

Mine did this t'other day..
Check your Internet Options, under the 'Advanced' tab, there's an option in the Multimedia section: "Play animations in web pages"... Make sure this is ticked - mine wasn't for some reason..
