My nanas Toyota starlet had the cambelt changed for £60, but there buggers to change so bid lower.

It took me about 10 minutes to do mine. Just find a star drive socket to fit the crankshaft pully bolt before you do it.

and at the same time look at your tires and check the air with your eyes.

It may not be a case of just replacing the belt itself either, sometimes the little teeth the belt sits on need replacing. Mine needed new teeth and rollers (or something along those lines) which meant it cost more. Got mine done a Vauxhall so if it snapped i'd be able to blame them.

how can you tell when it needs to be done?

my cars just coming up to 50,000 miles on the clock... However I was told that my Corsa B SXi has a chain driven cam belt! So doesn't need to be changed till a bit later (how much later)??

how do I know when?

Practically the same as the 1.2 8v.

Take off upper cam belt cover,
set Top dead centre by haynes manual
remove crankshaft pully bolt, (with right front wheel off for easy access)
remove alternator belt,
remove pully from crankshaft remove lower cam belt cover
find the two plates of the tensioner, pull together by hand or scriber point
remove old belt, and fit new belt.

refit everything and the pully bolt with a torque wrench.
