Nearly sorted the damn thing out now 
Boot from one floppy disc, it then copies the install files from the server, creates a setup script, re-partitions the hdd, formats it, installs xp, joins it to the domain & then installs all the software itself (office, psp, adobe, etc...)!

Just a few little niggles left, but its alllll good

oooh paulw, can you point me in the direction of having a setup like this?
can it be applied to win2k by anychance?

yup, you need the deployment tools from the microsoft website to create the unattend file, or you could have a read on it & try write the thing yourself
this site mite be helpful (covers win xp but same principal for 2k!)

but as for deploying the apps, thats done by a domain GPO, so once setup completes & it reboots, as it was automatically joined to the domain, the GPO kicks in & install office n all
