I've been finding it hard to get into reverse without the gears grating for a while, but now I'm finding it hard to get it into any gears without a bit of a fight
Do I just need to adjust the clutch or is there a major problem?
Is it something I can fix with a Haynes manual and a bit of elbow grease?

you may be able to adjust the clutch cable, however if you can adjust it no further then yes you need a new clutch looking at around 140 for new clutch, bearings, plate including labour

Is adjusting it something I can do myself?

Yeah, it's pretty simple, you adjust the cable till the pedal is lined up next to eh brake pedal.
Grtting on reverse, do you let the car stop first??

Yeah, the car's stopped. I was told putting it into second then putting it in reverse'd stop it, which it kinda does.
Its not that I can't change gear at all, its just its pretty stiff

Aye, the more I change gear the easier it seems to get. Maybe its binding somewhere?
Change the oil in the gearbox maybe?
