Looking for some independant opinions on both cars.

Have heard of horrible reliability issues with the 106 GTi / saxo VTS engine, and seeing as the Rallye isnt actually that much slower its gotta be worth a look!

Anyone have any stats for the 1997----> rallye?

Any info / experience appreciated thanks folks

never had a problem with my gti, what reliability issues have you heard? seems like a fairly reliable engine to me!

Rallye is 0-60 in 8.8 secs i think
Group 11 insurance

Was thinking about a Rallye before i bought my GTi but forked out a bit more insurance for more power and a nice interior.
Thing that put me off is the lack of stuff you get in a Rallye, i.e no central locking .

Cool cars though, theres a good site around for them, called Rallye register or similar, loads of info there, just google it.

Try and find a 16v Rallye. Thats the one to go for

Rare as rocking horse sh1t, plus they are an import so higher insurance i presume?

EU import though, not as harsh as a Jap import I wouldn't have thought.

radiators

Idle Valves

Guess there will be good 'uns and bad 'uns with any car, just seems to me the GTi is a problematic hot hatch.

Shouldn't have problems with a GTI. Find a good one and get some dealer warrenty.

lower insurance is also tempting me with the Rallye though. Im only 19 with 0NCB

I assume the Rallye handles every bit as well, if not better, than the GTi?

Yes. Still going to be pretty steep to insure.

Try elephant/admiral for insurance.
Mine was around £1300 for the GTi, although they hike it up if you wanna pay monthly, mines about £1600 in total.
im 20 with 0 NCB

Think the quote for the Rallye was around £1000

am getting quotes of around £1700 with elephant but my annual mileage is fairly high.

They wanted over 2k on a GTi

cant justify spending the insurance and want my own insurance policy now
how much you want for yours?

want £6K; have suspension and seatbels and plastic interior trim bits. Most of the parts are modded original bits like bumpers bonnet etc

Cos i only ever bought the GTi as a stop gap car between cars; then was offered the swap which i would have been stupid to turn down!

But want another BMW and have got enuff for a cabriolet now so its gotta go.

There's nothin worng with it low millage with FSH and loads of recipts and history

It would be LHD though, at least jap cars are RHD.

A few people are doing 16v conversions on UK S2 Rallye now.

Dunno if your best off, its alot of hassle changing engines and the ECU locking and wiring can be a real pain in the tits.

Tuning the 8v is less hassle.
