changing the timing chain is a costly and important job. Needs new rollers, pulleys and tensioners as well as the chain itself. Also a new water pump is ususally fitted when vauxhall do it.

yes the cam chains DO need changing, but i think its every 80k miles. The chains are good for the life of the engine, but the pulleys wear out just like the belt driven types.

Chains are maintenance free and don't need changing - chain runs on guides which again don't require changing !!!!
Check your facts before you post !!!!

Regardless of what you may think timing chains do need to be replaced. In my experiance the 1L is by far the worst. The problem I have been told is a lack of oil changes at recommended intervals.
I have first hand experiance with this matter as my own car is scheduled for a timing chain replacment in the coming week and my friend has just got his 1L back from the garage for the same complaint.
I have changed the oil in the car every 6-8K mls btw.

Thing about cam chains is they will make a noise when they need changing.. so you get some warning.
