Looking at getting it done soon but I can do it myself if it doesn't need welding!

not necessary but recommended,
If all filler used it will sink after while...

Weld in a plate, or get somewhere to weld one in after lock/plastic is taken off then u only have to use minimal amount of filler, then u better off getting whole boot panel resprayed to get proper colour match; this is mine 1 year on with no sinkage at all:

I was thinking of filling it then getting the bodyshop to spray the whole panel.
I didn't think it needed welding cause it's only a small hole! But I can see your point!
Don't know anybody locally who can weld it!
