my TD keeps overheating on any decent length journey
i have to have the heaters on to keep it cool and ive wired teh fan up to a switch so i can have it on when i like now
ive been told its not the thermostat playing up and theres no sign of the head gasket going tits up, so what the hell is the problem?
Anyone like to hazard a guess?
ive only got a couple weeks left till my project car ison the road and i can sell the corsa but id like to sell it for a couple hundred rather than fcuk all for spares and repairs

tbh it sounds like either thermostat or a nasty air-lock...
who said that it aint the thermostat? how did they check to see?

from what i understand, its on the opposite side to the petrols. on the r/h side of the block, but under a couple water and turbo pipes not something i want to do myself and i need to use my car every day for work until project car is on the road
my mate in work told me to just take the thermostat out, and then it wudnt overheat, but id have no heaters... and i cant sell teh car with no heaters!!!

sounds all too familiar
Are you leaking water?
Like Paul says may be thermostat, does the fan come on at the right temp if it does then your thermostats fine?
Maybe blockage in system, havent used any Radweld or shit like that have u? Try doing a pressure test to see if theres any holes in the sytem?
The heating/cooling sytem on the TD is the worse part of the Corsa TD...so far ive replaced the thermostat, radiator and water pump in only a year having it
Got the thermostat changed by a garage as its a bit of a bitch to get to etc.

radweld could of gunked up some of the rad & blocked bits or the waterpump, so causing the problems.

bro has this problem, tonihgt he changed the thermostat, made dick all difference.
tested the fan, it didnt work, but it did if you run it straight off the battery.
most probably a dodgy switch.
never had a problem with mine other than it leaks a little water.
i would check the fan comes on first, then flush the radiator out by pulling off both hoses and running a hose through it for about 10 mins.
failing that change the thermostat, only about 7 quid for that.
then if still faulty try the water pump too see if thats working.
wont be an airlock cos the corsa td is self bleeding.

i tried getting the pipes off the rad on saturday. top pipe jubilee clip come off but eth pipe wudnt budge. and on the bottom pipe i couldnt get my screwdriver onto the jubilee clip cos tehre was some strut in the way restricting my access. if i can, im gonna try and take the pipes off at the engine
yeah my fan wasnt working but i wired it up to the battery via a switch so i can control when i want it on now
no idea of the condition of the water pump tbh

I used Radweld and it blocked up my Rediator. I had to change the radiator to fix it. As it heats up quicker after using Radweld i think you've blocked it up as mine did exactly the same.
Usually its just some loose hoses and clips thats leaking.
From what i hear of Bonzai and Mark's car i think its the Radiator that needs changing as they seem blocked, same things happened to me, changed it never overheated again.

progress check, my bros corsa doesnt overheat during normal driving now, and thats with the fan disconnected, turns out it was a dodgy thermostat in the end.

rad cost about 72.85 delivered i was quoted but its about 55-65 if you collect yourself from a Vauxhall Spares dealer i got it from in Romford Eseex, these prices were last year though.

Kris just a Q - when your bro's car overheated was that in traffic or normal driving?
Mines leaking a little water cant find the leak anywhere though checked all the rad hoses and reservoir hoses and couldnt spot anything under the car

Stick some rad flush in it then. the hflush the whole system out with the hose then full it up with the correct mix, also blast through the rad as it may be block'd by gunk stopping the air flow aswell as the water flow. that or the 1bar of boost is heating it up more than normal

marks used to overheat after about 4 minutes of normal driving, not even driving fast. was dodgy thermostat.
i spent ages looking for where mine was leaking, turned out too be the water pump.

today i completely flushed the ad for about 10 mins. even conncted bottom pipe back up to engine and pumped more water through and it was fresh clean water from the hose. but its still over heating. and im kinda out of ideas
only thing i can really think of now is that possibly the water pump for the cooling system isnt working?
also changed brake pads today, left one was half worn but there was nothing left on the right one glad im selling this car in less than a months time fingers crossed
