i presume as they have little "give" so your body withstands the force of impact? i.e stopped to quickly?

Could be wrong, read loads on crashes, very interesting thats why when you see cars that are a complete mess in a na ccident, peeps go "oooooo fuck that looks bad" i mean its never good but the more you car disintergrates and absorbs the oncoming+/rection forces the less likely you are to be hurt. Takes all the force out the crash for you by crumpling.

Clever stuff

na all about because harnesses hold your torso tightly when impact happens your head is still free to move.. so as your body stayes in one place the head /neck gets snapped forward, and can actually rip out the cord wich connects your brain at extreme g's... (called something but cant remember) few guys in nascar have died from it...

yeh but they now have a chain that goes from the back of their helmet to the bucket seat to stop this happening...

considering nascars do 200 mph + when they hit a wall at those sort of speeds damage is gonna be done, without harnesses they would be dead for sure... So can't really say harnesses are doing them any more damage... Just they noticed that their necks were snapping coz of the force jolting their head forward - however, with this chain on the back of the helmet, with harness it stops this.

yea thats what it was about.... called the han strap or something... 2 chains linked to the helmet and joined to a board which goes down your back.... f1 drivers now use them.....

they did say though anything over 80mph you could have this fatal head jolt.... although it is made a lot worse is wearing a helmet....
