The engine in the nova is a 1.6 sr astra engine which is now a 1.8 due to boring out the cylinder head.
i think they mean the block

180 BHP is possible out of a 1600 - my friend has 190ish BHP from a Bowyer 1400 16v Corsa and another Corsa I know which is 1600 16v has about 220 BHP I think, possibly more. They have to rebuilt the engine every 10000 miles or something!
Its a weapon though

This 220bhp figure is a from a 16v. The engine in question is the old 1.8 8v unit from the mk2 Astra. Its far less tuneable. I reckon that figure is closer 140-150.

loks like its still running the standard inlet manifold & carb.
also the fuel filter is quite dirty (brwn thing)...
tbh I doubt this engine is pushing 180bhp... the engine pic, even though shite, doesnt seem right... I think there using the 'Max Power' method of working out how much power your running...
20BHP for Filter (probably including breather mod, so 40bhp)
15bhp per sticker (I see a K&N on the strut-brace)
10bhp for Chrome-effect wipers
5bhp per side for clear-repeaters...
