he told me he had to take the bonnet off pete and drill through the top of the hinge where it meets the bonnet

yeah apparantly because of the curve of the bonnet you cant get in to drill the hinges so off with the bonnet

You'll get in with a drill naturally, but you'll never get the bolts in that way with the bonnet on!
Shorter bolts and you should manage it without removing the bonnet. Gonna try it next week if I can get the lifters by then!

Pop you bonnet mate have a look there and have a look at this close up:

The bolt head is on the bonnet side with the nut on the inside. The gap between the bolthead and the bonnet is about 1-2mm and it's impossible to put the bolt in this way without removing the bonnet. You can drill it on the car, but unless you use a shorter bolt with the head on the engine side and the nut on the wing side, you have to take the bonnet off like diddon did

as i was readin that i thought about what you said with the short bolt mounted the other way about, would do the same job....? long bolt are hideous anyway!

They come with shorter bolts they just weren't long enough, so I bought my own and not cut them yet

simple couldn't find the hack saw, then my exhaust arrived so been sorting that out, just not got round to it
