what does, in terms of ram, 'construction' mean?

eg whats the difference between a ram with 256mb (32Mx72) and one with 256mb (32Mx64)

It just refers to the bus and how the module is configured (how many individual memory chips make up the total etc)...

the reason for the 64 or 72 is the bus width. 64-bit is used for normal memory (dual banked 32 bit system bus)... The additional 8 bits (72-bit) is used for error correction (parity) as used in ECC (error correcting code) modules... It's very unlikely you need ECC ram -- it's normally only spec'd for servers, etc...
