just doesn't work.
previous owner fitted an aftermarket styeering wheel, so i guess this is at fault.
i've taken the push button out of the centre, and it has a wire going to it, and a metal rod/contact which should touch the inside of the wheel when the switch is in the wheel. i guess this is the ground, and it should make the live when the button is pushed.
any ideas why it doesn't work?

The best thing to do would be to multi-meter the connections to see if the horn switch is functioning correctly. Then check if the actual horn is working by multi-metering it too. You should be able to find the problem that way...

i don't have a multi-meter.
should the horn sound if i earth the +ve?
