right, i hate the backlight colour of my MFD so i unplugged it and inspected the bulbs in it. after checking that i plugged it back in and IT DONT FRIGGING WORK. all i did was unplug that simple plug that clips in the back FFS.
checked all fuses 3 times, its not the fuse. what the hell is it? where does the wire that goes from the MFD goto? as maybe i unplgged it from the other end.

it wont light up if both bulbs are blown, you'll need some new ones to produce some light and that will then light up the display
problem solved, happy to help
