im converting my 1.2 8v to a x16xe 1.6 16v and was told the 5 speed gearbox i have already should be ok...but id lose some top end power and gain in acceleration from still ....is there truth in this or is it advisable to get an f15 gearbox?

Get an F15, its made for the 1.6 so will probably be better

It will fit, and work, but it will probably have longer gear ratio's (slower acceleration) and will wear out quicker...

F10 has massively long ratios compared to the F15. dont even bother keeping it. bin it in fact.

It was an F13 that cam out of my 1.2 8v, and i'm keeping it for my 1.6 conversion. Also a lightened fly wheel for free as the one I got with the 1.6 weighs a lot more than the one from 1.2

That s bollocks. ALL 1.2 8v's came with F10 gearbox. Unless you can prove otherwise

Well the gear box has a BIG F13 on it. I was suprised and thought the same as you.

IF the F13 was meant to be on the 1.6 engine vauxhall would have put it with the 1.6.
The F15 is designed to work with the 1.6 best so use this box, ya dont wanna be removing the engine again to fit the right box

but then again, a very small number of X16XE 1995 GSi's were fitted with the F13 anyway. All ratios between F13 and 15 are the same except the final drive.
