thinking of buying a car with no back box just straight through piping(fcuking loud!) but need to know if this means itll fail an mot for emmissions or if ill get fined anyway by cops for it being too loud?
Also is it true that there has to be a light on the rear numberplate ie to make it show up in the dark or not?

If your exhaust is to loud then you can get done for noise pollution (if it goes over 100db) It will only may fail on emmisions, but depends on what car it is. You do have to a rear number plate light, as it is illegal not to have one.

no im not pugnut and is it only if the noise actually goes over 100db or is it if the cops decide to rev the nuts off it until it does?

you can have a straight thru system, but it's generally straight through from the front untill the back box/silencer.
it's just the middle boxes that people get rid of for road use.
saying that, when i had my 1.2, the back box rusted, and snapped at the joint. i never replaced it, and ran for over a year without one. still had the middle box in place though, and wasn't loud anyway due to the small displacement.
