You dont really need to strengthen the body in a corsa

While I agree with big eck for a road car, if its for competition I would recommend that you stitch weld everything in sight.
As well as increasing the strength of the shell, it also helps improve the handling.
There does seem to be a growing number of people wanting to strengthen their engine bay on a road car. I would certainly do this on an XE/LET engined car.

i know corsa which have had standard 2lt 16v in for 5-6 years and fine
also a 230bhp TB 2.1 has been going for about 5 years and thats 100% fine
BUT i can say i have done my engine bay, as the engine had to come back out cos of head gaskets, while it was at the head skimmers i had it done.....

Let's clear up the confusion.
I did not say YOU must do this, I said I would do it!
This is based on my experience of rallying on gravel and tarmac
Generally road cars DON'T need to be stitched welded, however if you are putting a high power/torque engine into a road car it makes sense to weld up the areas that are in the immediate vicinity of the drivetrain.
This will give you a stronger platform for the expected increase in power you get from an XE/LET transplant and it also serves as preventative maintanance for the future.
Todays lightweight cars are made of such thinner materials than say 20 years ago, then stick in a powerful engine and stiffer mounts and make the suspension harder, you are asking a lot of standard production welds.
If you get the chance, look at a crashed small car, the standard welds will fail even in the smallest of impacts.
Remember, that although the Corsa is generally accepted as being stronger than the Nova, it wasn't engineered for the output/weight of a more powerfull engine.
This is only my opinion and that is what was asked.
BEARDY, why did you have your engine bay welded?

i had mine welded as a nice man Tom came a did it for me
also with a long chat with tom, about making the car stronger and wanting to help with handling (as V6 upfront dosent handle) we decided it was a good idea, as tom says with massive power it would be a good thing to do, its not a massive job, takes longer to dig out the panel sealent.

Don't forget too that it's not just about welds splitting - a welded/strengthened engine bay will reduce chassis flex under hard acceleration/cornering, which in turn will improve handling

I am telling you NOTHING!!!
Oh go on then..
MTech's plates aren't chassis/engine bay strengthening as such, but for the bodywork / tie bar where the tie bar mounts attach to.
Probably worth doing a few key areas in the engine bay too...
