you also have to drill holes in the boot for the bolts

no no no no no. if you dont know STFU.
there are two parts to the GSi spoiler, the under part(black) and the top part (body coloured) the black part needs to be attached to the tailgate. OE ones have srew treads spot welded to the tailgate and the black part is bolted onto these with plastic bolts. a common mistake is to just self tap it in, but this is stupid, and will mean its really unsafe. the best way is to use BMW inserts wich are drilled into the car, and then a bolt put through. the washer jet also needs adapting
the body colored part is then attached to the black part aswell as using a bonding agent. tiger seal is ok, but OE ones use adhesive tape, and this will hold good, but also allow you to cut the tape if you need to remove the spoiler for any reason, you can buy it from any good retailers. the spoiler is also held by four bolts through the tailgate, one in each corner.
once you put the spoiler on the car, the adhesive will stick hard, if you peel it back off the paint work it wount stick as good, so trial fit first, and then use the bonding agent. DO not use liquid metal or anything simular

all i did, was drill 6 holes, and whack on 6 nuts to the 6 bolts that were on as standard... looks and feels safe to me....

you can also get really lightweight fibreglass ones now which you can just bond on with stickerflex no need for bolts etc etc. but if your putting another spoiler ontop of it i wouldnt reccomend it.
Ive just fitted my spoiler today, its just s subtle one and it just sticks on with really strong self adhesive strips - i didnt think it would be strong enough to hold but it is ! pic below -
