gateshead int that far, it aint that bad, sum bits are nice others arent, same as most towns really
better thans Scumderland put it that way

I was looking forward to it. Now I can't be arsed and I feel I may be risking my life 
oh well at least I don't have to drive there instead i'm going on some little plane and risking my life again

Not risking your life at all matey...Newcastle Airport is way out of the way of Newcastle city centre so thats the downside...no idea where the gateshead council offices are tbh, but Gateshead isnt that bad.
Be sure to get a few nights out in the party capital of the UK
