right ive asked on a ford site and gib all so ill ask here

just rebuilt a head on a mondeo 1800 16v

new gaskets skimmed etc

new belts etc all on timing marks cams locked off etc

now when started it sounds like 4 old mk3 fezzies having a tappet fight

raelly bad like tracktor bad its fucking awfull what could it be? i

i thought it couldbe sticky lifters
mate rekons timing is out by a tooth and the valve is hitting the piston?

how long as it been running?
takes abit to get oil around

when i rebuilt the V6 it was the same

put some thick oil in it, run it for a bit and see if that helps

its been running for about 5 mins. its idling at 3.5k and holds back when you rev it

right few things
put kent cam lube on the cams no joy

if you remove number 2 plug lead it idles and rev upto 3.5k but no more

head has been skimmed.

now would it tap like a mofo if
the lifters went back in in the wrong order
the lifters--do the little holes on the side of have to line up with the hole's on the head?

been running for 10 mins still shitty and tapping like fuck

could the timing be out?

if the valves were bent cos timing is out then would it idle and restart a few times?

mine was tappy as hell until i took it for a spin after the engine was put in, it was purring like a kitten then...

my mate is convinced the valves are hitting the head but it would not re-start let alone idle if that were true


it does sound fooking poorly thou

gonna put new plugs in and take it for a lil drive

on top of that i need to fully service my cav

doesnt matter now

i timed it all up again and it was all spot on re tourqed everything checked the lifters etc

started it up it got ful compression an the bottom end let go

a) someone buys it
b) we get a new engine
