Following some bat-mobile, old skool mazda on the way to work this morning. Just wondering what it was

On a B plate, and just had written mazda badge (not the symbol) on the back, flip up headlights, and every time the driver came off the gas or changed gear it spat a little flame

oh, and it wasnt quick really either!
pretty cool car though

1, how does he now he was putting is foot down?
2, it might have been a fuked 1, i.e. missfire etc?

3 generations , take the Gen 2 and drop the 13B gen 3 engine in , you then have a qtr mile car of about 11secs
