Really want a Boxster but don't think I can afford to run one, plus I wouldn't get much for my budget (22k max), so I am going to buy one of the below.

318(!) Sport Cab. Cheap to insure, reasonable MPG etc and seem to hold their value well.

Opinions. Would I get bored of the performance? I drive a Mini Cooper at the mo, which is nippy and great in the corners but overall is prob about the same as the BMW. Black with grey leather

Loverly car mate, running costs will be high on that too tho, obviously not as high as a boxster but still not cheap

Servicing is surprisingly cheap mate at BMW, will prob only need one service in the time I would have it too. Plus, it'll be under warrenty.

The Box I could afford would need an OPC inspection, full OPC service history and that would enable me to get limited OPC warrenty, at £1000ish/annum. Then poor MPG, expensive insurance and the chance of a massive bill if anything goes wrong Also, not sure I could live with a two seater.

This is my dads boxster mate, if you want one i'd try and get a clean one, teh servicing costs loads, i dread to think how much it would cost of something goes wrong.

BUT, not many cars hold their values as well as boxsters, you could buy one, and sell it in a year and not make hardly any loss

Knew that was coming! I can't bring myself to pay for the insurance though, or the regular services, and the fuel etc. Nor could I live with the interior. If I spent 20k on a car, I want a nice interior too!

Looks nice. I dunno much about the beema convertables.
The Mini Cooper S handle well and are nippy, and seem like a drivers car. As does the Porche I guess.

Does the Beema handle like a boat in comparison to the Mini and Beemer?

Yes, Box depreciation is rock solid, but I don't want to be in debt if something goes wrong and costs a fortune to replace. Plus, older cars are going to need brakes, tyres etc. It would work out costing way more than the BMW in the long run I reckon.

Definately putting a deposit on a Boxster Coupe when the list opens though

TBH, even though the boxster is nice, i would rather have a 1 year old BMW than a 5 year old boxster, purely because of running costs

I only have a Cooper but its fantastic to drive, brilliant fun but i have had it a year now and I reckon that in about 3months it will be the ideal time to sell from a depreciation perspective.

TBH I have never driven the BMW, but I doubt it will be anything to write home about!

Exactly, need 27k for a decent second hand Box. New Coupe should come in at just uner 30k for the 280bhp model, so 5k for a decent spec and its a hell or a good deal.

Not keen on the S2000 or the 350Z TBH.

Also, isn't the S2000 a 2 seater?

Forget that. Quotes on the BMW are around £900, though if I shop around I might find it cheaper.

Personally I couldn't live with that. I looked at CLKs, for the same price as a 200 Kompressor convertible (9.5 to 60) you can have a 500 V8 coupe (5.9).

I'm going to hang on until late shape CLK 320 converts become vaguely sensible, they're 10k more than the same car with 4 cylinders at the moment. Daft.

I think the Sport refers to spec level rather than performance.

As I mentioned, I would like the performance too but refuse to be stung on insurance etc.
