I only did AS maths, everyone else on teh course (physics degree) has gone A level, and i took a year out so forgotten all the stuff i knew anyway! I got to solve (without a calculator and showing working) what x is....


3^(2x) = 5^ (x+1)


I know i got to use logs but cant remember the rules

EDIT - forgot the power sign on the right hand side!

Basically, im not sure what the ^ means....

BUT

If that wasn't there if would simply be

3 x 2 + 3 x X then 5 x X + 5 x 1

haha if only it was that simple...

I'm in a similar boat... Only did As level, then left and did 2 years college where not much maths was used... Now doing Computer Science and have shit loads of maths to do which most of which is easy for the people (who are nearly all) that have A-level maths...

a^x is x log a, but what about a^(kx) and a^(x+c) ?? Im stuck! Couldnt do the first question at all, only done half the 2nd and now stuck on the 3rd I think im gonna be doing the maths foundation course

I got as far as evaluating one side at a time, then realised I can't substitute x in there as its in both sides.

This won't beat me.

lol, go ian go ian, i cant be arsed i have to work with maths for the rest of the week working out steam pipe expansion etc and variable supports so i will let this pass me buy
