Basically, the + and the - are two different formats......if you buy a DVD+R drive, you need DVD+R discs; similarly with DVD-R discs only working in a DVD-R drive; hence, buy a DVD±R drive and don't worry about which discs you're buying.
Dual layer allows for 8.5Gb discs to be used, rather than the standard 4.7Gb from ± single-layer discs.
As above, buy either a ±R drive, or fork out on a dual-layer for the 8.5Gb capability.
Yes, you will need to buy a DVD-Rom drive aswell, to actually read the DVD you're getting the information from......these can be picked up for between £15-20 if you look in the right places.

oooooo, look at you with your fancy +_ sign
Why do they have 2 formats though ?
I always have problems trying to explain to retards.
Will one eventually die out ?
Why does + copy faster than - ?
Why is the sky blue ?
Answers please Dan

ALT-0177 = ±
Why did we have VHS & Betamax for videos?
See above...
No idea...
Blue light's short wavelength causes it to get scattered around 10 times more by oxygen and nitrogen molecules than the longer wavelengths (like red) of the other colors visible to us. The blue in the sky we see is scattered blue light.
