Had a lecture this evening with some idoit from ford's. Proffeser earnwhat etc etc
basically spent 2 hours telling motorsport students about emissions! what the first thing race teams to do cars, forget about emisions and mpg!
few amusing features of the talk:
1 - the guy must earn £200k+ as is professer and is in chrage of worldwide sales for ford! SO he goes on about how he has a company car etc etc a C-MAX, come on surely he would have a vanquish or jag x type etc etc but nope a cmax as good on fuel and emissions. idiot
2 - in the next 5 years these will be available for lots fo cars
alcohol test which wont let you start car if you are drunk
lasers that keep the car between lines on motorway - how do you leave the motorway?
drive by wire steering and brakes meaning you have little control
black box for telementary data - good idea for accident investigators
speed limit restrictors will know where all speed limits are in uk and be able to restrict the car to that limit!
pay as you go tax
pay as you go insurance and area like 11pm in london will cost you a fortune if youre driving!
3 - when asked about f1 and ford pulling out - its not feasable and profitable anymore even though the reputation and image of ford racing will go
4 - wrc is confirmed for the next 4 years with ford - thank god!!
5 - and he spent the whole lecture about how importnant the indian and chinese market is to ford - they even have spice racks on the dash
6 - and it appears the guy is emissions crazy and thinks diesel is far more superior to petrol - fair enough it is yes but he is lecturing motorsport students on ford racing!!
Sorry just thought a few of you may find that of interest

the laser technology to keep cars within the white lines on the motorway is already in place, was watching an advert for citreon where they were discussing it. Its not to keep you on the motorway, its just to keep you in lane, from what I can gather so far - the technology alerts you if you cross the white lines without say indercating?
Car limiting your speed is another feature I've seen on some car programmes, its rather silly really but hey you don't want to be breaking the law now do you?
Blackbox - good for accident information, bad if its going to be 'phoning home' to your insurer that you were doing ton twenty on the M1 one morning.

Ford in WRC has been public knowledge for a few weeks.
The breatheraliser thing has been on TV for ages.
But if i was on 200k i wouldnt have a C-Max!
Emmisions and racing dont go hand in hand really!
Wish i could do your course!

yeh apparently the x type has cruise control that when you get within 20 metres of the car in front pulls you back !
spice rack was a joke matt!!
and his idea of a performance car was the 2.0l duratec engine ha ha!
Imagine people with 360's 911's when the speed limit thing comes in,
they will only nee two gears, 0-70 in 1st and 2nd as a cruising gear!

the whole limiting speed limiting thing was kind of tried over here ion ireland, where they could not go faster that 55 mph. the scrapped it, cause it made it too dangerous for overtaking.
