After talking of this for nearly a year ive finally got it done. Got the car back yesterday from Griffin Spares in Dudley total cost £1300 drive in and out and I got my old engine back too .

First impressions of going from a 1.2 16V to 2.0 16V is that it feels SUPER quick. My first ever drive was in the rain and after planting the throttle in 1st all I got was spin and all-over the road, pretty much the same story in 2nd but then 3rd it got going. Never driven a car with such an aggressive revvy engine (even in std format). Im going to have to learn how to be gentle on that accelerator - not like flintstone power of the 1.2 where it would either be off gas or foot to floor LOL.

Downsides are that it still needs some work - new altenator as mines only working intermittently as the regulator has packed up and the voltage is going a little high. Needs a new sump gasket (common as feck!) as its weeing oil a little oh and a different transducer on the gearbox as the one he's fitted gives the wrong speedo reading i.e 50mph when im doing over a tonne (think he's fitted an Astra GTE one?). Other than that the work seems to be pretty darn good

I can join the 5 door valver club now Think im going to have fun when im nxt to the neds in their 1.2 merits at the lights and they are laughing at the extra doors I have

they will only be able to see the extra doors till the lights turn green then they'll wave bye bye to you

i remember i went from 1.0 12v to 1.4 16v that seemed fast for about 2hours lol.

Sad to see it go Tim -> whats next on the agenda then?- If you split parts i'll be in the que with 1000's of others LOL

Craig, forgive my ignorance but have I met you? Where and when? Im having a mental block due to killing mass brain cells over the past month with Lager/spirits

Serious though... Im going to need shares in Pirelli (& an engine rebuilders) if I keep driving the way I did last night, there's that much noise and im in such shock I dont know when its on its limiter

Going to have an wheel alignment check nxt week but are other people fighting to stay on the road when they plant the throttle in 1st/2nd? Mines pulling left/right - anything bar straight ahead I was actually turning right slightly yet it was pulling left lastnight when I was flooring it?

good lad, a 5 door will certainly surprise people thats for sure!
Be careful with your liscence though mate and only do top speed runs late at night on your private road!

I Love thursday nights as when i get back from uni i get the car out, oo it feels so fast!

Cleaned the bay up a little this morning only for her to get a mahoosive missfire! Pot 1 was dead... A new set of plugs later and she's sorted once more but driving on 3 cylinders was no fun

Just got to sort the little oil leak and away we go

Yup once the dreaded leak stops I'll start making her look a little more fancy. I'll get the manifold polished and zinc plated, was thinking about getting a new rocker/insert and cambelt cover and getting them chromed too?

Found out today that the sump is merely weeping - its the oil pump seal thats not happy which im told is a bottom end off job

Then finally get all my Alpine ICE installed properly in the boot with a fiberglass install.

Ive had her 4 years now Mark - should move on really but I just love it - STILL. Yes it got 5 doors and I get the usual flack but I dont care, makes it look that little more euro and all the more shocking that its running a valver engine. I STILL not going to stick a silly kit on it LOL.

NO MARK - dont do it, get out whilst you can.

Ive seriously spend silly ££ on this car. The problem is I buy things and change my mind...

In four years since it rolled off the showroom its had

5 diffo sets of alloys

4 suspension kits

4 diffo exhaust systems

2 diffo ICE systems

2 diffo sets of bucket seats and harnesses

and a diffo engine LOL.

could be wrong, but that looks like one of the spark covers from an LET which i think are plastic. ?!?
if so you'll have to swap it with someone before you can polish/plate it.
