Was following a (wait for it)........Vtr (old shape, to make things worse) tonight and we got onto a straight, he booted it, as did i and he was pulling away from me!! Is my Gsi fucked?? seems to loose power at about 5K rpm...is this normal any thoughts on what the problem could be?

And.......if you thought it was because the Vtr was tuned...well i also raced my brothers Zetec-s and.......well......erh, I just about kept up!! (Btw its the ecotec)

its worrying me more that you think its down to gear changes......because (not meaning to brag) i have a lightning fast gear change....the revs don't even get time to flicker....not that gd on the gear box i know but i only do it when i'm racing.

yea, i think there must be somthing up with the engine. its got loads of torque low down but as soon as i rev it, it doesn't seem to pull that well. I gotta get it sorted...dunno where to start though.

X16XE and torque should not be mentioned in the same sentance.

Drive a Punto GT floor it in 3rd and that is torque.

lol, yea but i'm comparing it to my SRi which would just sit there not moving much in too high a gear. But top end on it was amazing, pulled hard all the way to the rev limiter....alot better than mine now.

mine is an ecotec too - but only has an induction kit which gives it a nasty flatspot from around 2.5-4k

i never get why people on here go on about a saxo VTR why cant you race a VTS? 1.6 16V is why GSi's should be racing!

because the VTS is 120bhp & also a much better power-to-weight ratio...

standard GSi wouldnt stand a chance against a VTS unless tuned upto about 140bhp & even then its still going to be close...

emissions & environment crap my arse...

they did it so if you wanted more power you'd buy something like an Astra GSi or something...

they knew the engines good for more, they just made it slower so the range is more 'balanced'

I need to take one of you out in my Nova, its so much better in the Nova with less weight with some more bhp it will be a weapon of mass destruction.

100kg less than my GSi & I can imagine the difference...

I felt a difference when I had the interior out of the old corsa & that was only a 1.4
