Internet Changes
We notified all supervisors some months ago that system changes would affect access to the Internet.
From Wednesday 8th December 2004 all Internet traffic will be directed through a proxy server. This means that a server will audit all Internet access for every user in the office and also block and log any Internet sites or searches of questionable content.
How to use the new system
Once the Internet Explorer icon is activated. A login screen (Figure 1) will prompt the user to login to the Internet, please login with your LAN (Windows XP) username and password. Once this has been authenticated you will be able to use the Internet as normal.
Which sites are blocked?
Not all non-business related web access has been blocked. Users may still use the Internet for pre approved non-business use during their lunch hours.
The following categories have been blocked and any attempt to access them directly or search for them with relevant keywords will be logged.
· Crime
· Drugs (Non Medical)
· Sexual Content
· Gambling
· Occult
· Violence
· Weapons
· Anonymous Proxies (Web sites that hide their Internet address)
Multiple blocked attempts for sites or keyword searches related to the categories above will result in the offender’s account being locked. In this event a report will be generated and automatically sent to management, it will then be decided what further action should be taken.
Summary
Please help us continue with our approach to Internet use. Subject to responsible use within our guidelines New India allows more access to the Internet than most companies.
