You use £7 electricity a week. You have electric appliances. You don't use electric.

We have a key meter system here, there are 3 of us in the house here (sometimes 4), we use about £10 electricity a week, there's always someone here, TVs/stereos/etc. always in use.

Key meter systems are better IMHO. Don't have to worry about bill errors and such like - just pay as you go electricity and gas!

yeah scottish power are known for this
they say they can save you money on your leccy
then you sign up they give you say a year of estimate reading that are really cheap
you think this is awesome then they come read you meter for the first time in a year and give you a big fcuk off bill
you ring em saying you cant/will not pay so they come to a arragement so you pay off the debt say a tenner a month
all the time you have to stay with scottish power till the "debt" is paid!

We had a similar problem.
Though it was a completely new company that sent us an invoice for £900, some midland shite. We are with Powergen and always have been, and the letter comes through stating they have been supplying us with gas & elec since last year but only decided to bill us now.
Phoned them but aint recieved a reply

check if it is estimated first. Also what it could be is if you have had estimated bills for the last 3 quarters and they have all been under-estemated so when you give them a true reading its alot higher, which just means that you have to pay for alot all at once. This happens with every electric company not just Scottish Power. Ive worked for powergen and british gas.
a tip to you all, steer clear of British gas, they are shit and they are overpriced, also if you have never switched electric suppliers then it will be cheaper to move (local service provider, eg, N power in Yorkshire, has to have a set price, this means any company other than them can offer a lower price than them, )
