Can you just plug in new memory cards into the spare slots of your mother board? Do I need to do anything else? I got loads of them lying about in my ol PC's and need a memory boost on my PC as it gets a little slow sometimes.

crucial make memory for most major computer manufacturers e.g Dell and HP then they charge a fortune selling it on. Crucial are really cheap and free delivery. I've been to the warehouse in East Kilbride quite interesting.
