when u fit the powerbox it comes with the metal egr feed pipe. if u blank off the egr using a blanking plate, do u need to connect the pipe into the powerbox? if not, is it just a case of capping off the pipe near the inlet manifold?

Yes, if EGR is removed, blank the manifold and plug the powerbox.
