Good car/Bad Car? I know its not desperately quick but a chip can sort out this turbo'd lump. Thinking of chopping my 206gti in for something along these lines.

My Audi was nice A3 1.8T which is basically the same car.

Power is meant to be delivered better in the Golf..3rd gear i think has more power.

The car imo dosn't have the dynamics to be a sporty car mate.Throw it into a corner and it all goes a bit 'Pete'

I drove a 5-door 1.8T and it was ok. Engine aside, the car felt well made and gearchanges were very solid.

Smooth as anything too! Will be a million miles away from the GTI.

Not a great driving experience. Far from it.

As above though, smooth, well screwed together etc.

the golf is apparently 8.3 secs to 60 with 150bhp 190lb torque. my pug is 8 to 60 with 138bhp 145lb torque. Well my aim for my next car is to be turbo'd, with similar or more power than my pug, but with good build quality and something around £7k that isn't too bad on parts etc. I have always liked the looks of the golf, was considering a scoob, but this seems more 'practical' :/

It wouldn't be far off tbh.The turbo spoils up at about 2K so it's always on the ball.AMD to the rescue and that's the end of a redtop.

TBH what would you rather drive?

Well having owned a corsa already i would prefer to try the golf for its quality build exterior and interior, enough of pug bodywork, scratches and dents too easily lol
