Help, I need to learn how to drive. or realistically how to drive my car fast

Whole different ball game having 4wd, have not pushed the car anywhere near the limit yet. Dare not do this on the road as could meet an untimely end with a kerb or worse another car.

Have managed to master all my FWD cars within a few weeks, with exception of pug lift off oversteer punishing me on my rallye a couple of times. However this scooby is a little tricky, boosting on corners or exiting roundabouts has a tendency for the arse to swing out, but its easily caught again with slight lift off. wonder what would happen if i kept the power on? Nice drift or end up facing the other way?

Also launching is a bit of a mission, trying to do it without frying the clutch means the car bogs down. If you get the car rolling then boot it its flying, but how to launch of the line without rolling start is difficult, well without frying the clutch anyway.

So any of you 4wd turbo`d monsters have any driving tips?

i guess a few laps of the track would help me learn limits of the car, but in the mean time any advice welcome.

with dads p1 used to roll start then floor it, that worked better.
The scooby handles well and very good in the wet.
Id say just try keeping the power on, but try on an airfield etc first. you need to make sure the boost comes in before the corner or will unbalance the car.

Tis a different ball game init mate picked his scooby up the other week, went to launch hard from standstill made some silly noises but yeah well easy to to get it when it's rolling.

I'd have thought a track day will help you learn more than tursting what people say on here after all they don't have your exact car same boost etc.

I'd go for a full power on drift off a roundabout spin the fecker up should drift in theory

adjust you diff to suit

Get to a quiet roudabout or better still a carpark at night and see what happens if you push it.... It should be quite predictable and semi neutral depending on diff settings etc... give it a go

I boat all my RWD cars round far too much hehehe

theres a set of roundabouts on a business park that are so perfect its like a race track. At night its deserted, could be a good testing ground, will have to see how high the kerbs are first though

in theory!!!
yeh as tom says try a track day at an airfield like elvington or whatever is your way.
They usually have instructors to help you out and show you how to drive the car properly.

wait for it to be dry and not slippy roads then have a play with it, once you have mastered the dry , take on the wet, i have driven 4wd tubs, but not had enough time to play with them, im only speaking from my rwd experiance,

you are not going to master it in a few weeks,

for me hitting corners at the right boost is a must to how i exit the corner , wether i want to be pointing straight or weather im coming out of the corner bacwards, also applies to the straight.

At the moment i just cant drive anywhere, the other night i was doing about 40 in 4th and there was some car up my arse so i just tried to get some space as there headlights were pissing me off, didnt even floor it and ended up on the other side the road at about 45 degress and it then kicked back the other way , scared the shit out of me

yeah thinking of AP organic clutch at some point, only good for 360bhp though i think?

would the snap on/off action of a paddle clutch be better for launching?

Need to learn how to launch, a properly launched impreza/evo will roast exotica off the line!

ok then.... trick is to be quite gentle and measured with you throttle and lift off...

lift off too quick and it'll snap back....
boot it and you be facing the wrong way...

just needs a bit of practice and time before you get used to how its going to react... took me a while to trust the skyline now its arse out for fun at 60etc whoohoo

decided then, first job will be organic clutch.

currently at a safe 300bhp atm, going to aim for a 350 bullet proof figure i think. 400 is going to be too much work.

5.5k launches and foot flat to floor in the corner don't lift off mid corner. Clutches - I run an Alcon which has lasted loads of launches with no sign of any wear.

Nik does the backend ever step out on the evo if it boosts when you have already entered the corner?
