Inlet Manifold, Exhaust Manifold, full exhaust and a ECU re-map and you looking at about 160bhp.

is it a C16XE or a X16XE?
It makes a difference.

You would be looking a TB's to get close to that power but you would need some internal mods as well.

will cost megga bucks but u'll prolly need something along the lines of this:

High degree cams
ported and polished head
Throttle Bodies
pocketed pistons (pos overzised)
arp rod bolts poss steel rods
lightend balance bottom end

lots of other extras too like double valve springs etc

Best person to talk to is Andy hamilton who has a 230 bhp (IIRC) 1.6

i wana get a decent amount of bhp without having to mess with the internals too much a turbo would mean a strengthened head etc how much do throttle bodies cost? and what bhp increase do they give? i would've thought sbd are the people to speak to there? and would they be easy to set up etc.
also if the cars kicking out serious horses with such a small displacement would i HAVE to get conrods strengthened etc and how much does that cost?

Technically no, but as the power is all up the top end of the rev range you need to build a strong engine if you want to actually use it.

SBD site has prices.

hmmmm quite expensive but it says roughly £2,000 for about 170bhp and all i would need to do is get arp bolts (possibly a tuned head aswell)

best start saving the pennies then!

thats why i wana do it plus it would be nice to pull up next to some of the motors ive just beat and say its a 1.6l

p.s do you seriously think i will have to keep rebuilding it every 15k? what if it had uprated pistons and con rods too then it would be solid and it would rev out high aswell

Is it really worth it, pushing to many ponies out of an engine will make it very unreliable! I think it would be silly anyway...

Agreed with Fwaza (funny name that mate)
My most recent track day finalled my opinion, about half an hour before I went in the lobby for the induction, I was talking to a middle aged bloke who owned a 1.6 corsa, he owned his own garage and built fast vaux cars in his spare time, he had a graph with him, it read 198bhp,186lbs ft torque.
I expected him to corner better, faster and by the time I was out the corners he would have been gone anyway as he would corner faster. Not the case, my cornering was slightly slower for the first 2 laps, once I was used to the track layout I started going into corners an extra 0.5thou revs higher, halfway through the corners when I pushed on the throttle I was away, I ended up over 14secs infront of this 1.6 when I looked at the notice board, and I cannot say I was a better driver than him, he has 14 years experienced and raced amatuer comps in his younger days.

i know that if the engine's lite and pushing alot of bhp that the wheels are gonna be spinning most of the time but i have seen that courtenay do a limited slip diff which should mean it would be better around corners.

and if i strengthen the internals of the engine. will it be more reliable or not

u know something the wieght difference isnt that much between a 2ltr and a x16/14xe I hardly noticed it when i had my conversion done and i did have a semi tuned 1.4 16v it was the most unreliable thing i've ever had never again.

there smaller XE's are ok but you really have to keep them buzzing to get any power out of them and it get tirring IMO. Its all up to u at the end of the day how much time do you actually spend on the track and is it worth it?

what do you mean by "keep them buzzing to get any power out of them" ive never been on the track b4 if i was gona use it for track i'd probably consider more extensive tuning but if i spend a couple of grand under the bonnet i should have a car with considerably more power than say.. my mates 2.0l nova
