hi, was just wandering is there any way of checking if an engine is working whilst it is out of the car? i mean, checking that it turns over and that the cambelt hasnt been snapped?

could take off the head and see if the valves are bent?

rotate the pulley on the bottom of the engine? and listen for noises? thats turns round the cams.
