right, taking the car in for an MOT on Friday, last year it passed on emissions with a de-cat pipe. but i dont even know if it should have one!
It has a lambada sensor, maybe that makes sod all difference?
Is there any way of telling from my engine number as to when it was made or if it requires a CAT.
I think i can get it through no matter what but just trying to ease the confusion!

Right, okie dokie!
How do they know what year the engine is when i take it in? do they have a database to input the engine number that reveals its year?

Ask them to look in thier book and tell you what the exhaust emissions limits are for a 2.0 16v Corsa. They will tell you there are no recorded figures and are then obliged to do a basic smoke test.

Youve not seen this? They use a smoke bomb on the intake of the engine to test the emissions.

Not really sure what it is... Probably see if lots of smoke comes out of the exhaust at idle and mid rev...

Just been informed that there is a date stamped on my block of when it was made!
19/10/90 is what it reads
Baring in mind thats a casting date, should be ok and use that to fob them off with if there is any hassle.

Oh also, if you have the original block it should read 20XE along the bit where the gearbox bolts onto at the front where the engine number is. If it says C20XE it was meant to have a cat on...

True, but C20XE's were made before '92 so legally dont need CATs, its upto you to prove the engine age though.

At least i know a little more now! Just above the sump there is a date when the block was cast, i'll try and use that if push comes to shuv, even though the block would require machining afterwards plus alot of other stuff, maybe wouldn't be running until alot later

Hopefully wont go to them levels though!
