for doing 70 mph on a duel carriageway, apparently this is unacceptable, as the police now encourage speeding

"dangerous and careless driving, which may encourage road rage"

he undertook me, then pulled me over

i got his number, should i make a complaint, as i wasnt technically breaking the law?

this is correct, however, i was doing the speed LIMIT, and i could have argued that i didnt pull back over, as there was a car in the inside lane which i was preparing to overtake

Was coming down the M1 last night and me dad saw a police car in the fast lane, so reduced speed, obvoiusly and the police car went speedin past at about 85-90, with no blue lights on or anything, which i thought was taking the piss somewhat.

Unless in the process of overtaking, you should always be in the left most lane possible.

Just saying what they'd use to argue the case with you. I doubt a complaint would get anywhere.

but if i had pulled back in, by the time i had done this, i'd have had to pull out again, defeating the object of me pulling in, and he probably would have had a go about me swerving erratically then

On the subject of middle lane morons..I find it annouying when you have to undertake someone in the right lane when the left lanes are blatantly clear. i now resort to flashing the lights and pressing my palms on the horn several times under the 'moron' has moved.

Back on this subject.. report the plod!!

It's an uphill struggle any way you look at complaining. He prob took exception to you/was bored or something.

Complaining might only piss him off and make him more inclined to do you (not dry, just by law) if he sees anything remotely suspect again.

True.

Would just let it go. Complaining gets you nowhere with the police, they just think you're being a cnut

Best just cooperating with the police being polite agreeing with them then going on your way - balls in there court really......no point making things difficult IMO
