Where can i buy these from, i'm replacing them for piece of mind and trying to eliminate some "play" in the pistons at the top of their stroke, is this the way to sort it ?
I know nothing much of pistons or blocks and stuff

check the bores are round not oval first, sbd will do ya standard Gm pistons, if the pistons and rings are worn the play would be at all intervals of its stroke

play might be the bottom end as any movment would be accentuated at the top of its stroke being a further distance from its pivot point

Think you need to take it to an engineering shop and say rebuild this please then hand over the cash.

just bottom end rebuild say £350-400, full engine rebuild standard parts about £750-800

if ya got future plans now is the time to put them into play, bigger pocketed pistons, deseamed rods (at least), ARP's then the engine dont have to be completely stripped down again

i'd just stick with the GM/autovaux stuff.... alot of these upratd parts just end up causing problems.... arps i suppose might be a good idea....

what ya want is .5 oversized GM pistons with 2mm valve seats cut into them, SBD sell all this stuff, rods AINT cheap expect to pay a fair few hundred squid, if ya deseam the rods and shot peen them to harden the matal again the standard rods can rev to 8000rpm so think about weather you ever want to rev behond that.
A 1.6 16v X16XE or C16XE can be tuned to 200BHP on standard deseamed rods and pisons with valve cuts in them ARP's are a must though
Oi Siberia lets see ya missus

Miles got 197bhp on deseamed rods, arp's and 2mm pocketed pistons, i was talking bottom end. He had cams and head work with TB's but thats another thing
But 200bhp is the absolute limit on this, miles had head gasket problems i believe

Cast pistons eh not so good for higher tuned engines.
Miles enigne made 197BHP yeah , I'm familiar with the spec of it. However at speedex where it was mapped it was nly making 175ball park, and without a remap you thik it magically jumped 15BHP??
I'm also familiar with someone elses 1600 on intruder pistons and 300deg cams, and it made 180 on his mappers rollers.
I don't think 1 rolling road read out is worth the claim, esp when on accurate roolers it made no where no that.
To boot a JRE engine will only managed about 205BHP and that's got the works inside and is built by one of the best vx race engine builders.

well you need to decide which it is, cause you'll be limited wiht CR of 10.5:1 and want to run nitrous, but you'll he handy capped if you want max TB power on 9.5:1-9:1 to run lots of nitrous
Best thing would probabaly be flat top accralites thne you cna add a thick H/g needs be.

then if you want to go to town on the bottom end I'd say get some 87mm accralite flat top psitons with maximum valve cut outs. (check there website)
ARP rod bolts.
Re-bore
and then new mains and big end shells
oh and check the oil pump too.
Then have it all assembled for you.
