Its not EGR its the secondary air pump which takes hot air out of the exhaust manifold straight into the CAT to warm it up reducing emmissions.
Might bring the EM light on if not plugged in, mine and Brosters has been running without it for as long as I've had my car on the road.

Arite mate. The bit thats attached to the suspension turret does need to be plugged in. When its disconnected it brings the em light on. The only spare plug that I had after taking the pump off was the main plug that went into the pump itself. Its running fine with it the way it is.
Why do u ask????

Aye u definately need it. A dont think it needs to be blanked off like mine. BUt if you leave it without the connector plugged in it brings the light on. Ive just been out and tried it.
Remember to clear the codes once youve got it on.
Turn ignition on and off 20 times will clear all the codes.
