I got bought HL2 as a Christmas pressie & all was well & good...
but as I was getting the net disconnected at home, I told Steam to work in Offline mode, so I can still play it
Went to play it this weekend & the damn thing says I need to connect to steam 
Want to play the thing but now I cant - tis proper shite cos of the stupid restrictions

dont play through steam then, open the hl2.exe from the root directory

you need the net to play Half-Life 2, it'll only let you play once its been verified by steam. This happens everytime u install it, and there's no way around it.
