how long is a piece of string
You can go for as little as replacing all the gaskets and a little head clean up, right through to a full nut and bolt re-build!!!

What they mean is do you want to rebuild the engine, using std parts? Or are you going to uprate anything whilst its in peices (advisiable) Obviously uprating everything would most probably cost more but leave you with a much more reliable and more powerfull engine.

i've just spent £410 on 3 sets of bearings (thrust, main and big ends) full engine gasket set, full bore honing, full set of rings, fully cleaning inside and out of engine painting the outside and skimming the top of the block, that's for a 1.8 turbo engine but prices will be roughly the same i imagine, that's possibly a ball park figure for you, and obviously if the head needs work it'll cost more, bla bla but i'm doing all the actual refitting etc.. and putting engine back in so won't cost on that. depending where u go, a cyldiner head refurb can cost anywhere from 150 - 700.
