Will a straight through exhaust give a louder sound than just a back box?
My middle section has gone and dont know if i should change the back box or the whole system. its a 1.2 16v sxi

it will make it louder yes, although without a middle section may sound a bit raspy?

on my old corsa i only had the backbox, took the centre box and the cat off, it was pretty damn loud i have to admit. had a piper mild steel backbox and it wasnt raspy at all, had a really nice sound to it.
