Finnaly got Mattb to come round and fit the new turbo last night after car being off road for a week or so (hence my absense from national meet)
Took us fookin ages due to poor light and a number of little snags but we got it in there in the end after much radiator bashing
Drove it last night and it doesnt smoke anymore
BUT.....
Its now not boosting properly and the EML came on We couldnt see what was wrong, tried all the vacuum hoese, discovered the connections on the Amal valve we shot so we put a bullet connector on tidied it up and replaced them, we then swopped them over to see if it was causing the problem, no joy.
Turbo is making a MASSIVE woooshing noise its sooo loud. Its not boosting at all properly tried to boost in 5th and my car felt like a 1.0l
No idea whats wrong, possibly a duff actuator alltho it apparently felt stiffer than my old one
Any ideas please share!
Sorry for the essay, but nearly back to turbo power

also what is not boosting properly.
coming on at the correct revs, not holding boost, not going up high enough?

Could be a number of things - when you say "not boosting" does it feel like your hitting a brick wall?
If so "boost out of range" could be a possibility.
Cutting the fuel because it cant keep up.
This happened in the cav when the boost spiked to 23psi - in the wet in 2wd

The actuator worked when the turbo was on Matts car... It will be an electrical problem, you know what Moronic ECU's are like

why rule out the turbo itself??
if its second hand there could be any number of reasons for it to produce crap boost...

its not normally a turbo's problem.... its VAC hoses etc that lead to low, or no boost.

Need further info on the problem.
When you say crap boost what is the boost gauge telling you?
Have you read the fault codes?

ill do my best to describe it guys, i got the car hoem at 1:30am so i just went to bed as i couldnt be arsed to stand in the cold n e more
So no fault codes diagnosed, when i came into my drive after a quick small boost in 1st the EML turned off
Basically, the turbo is MEGA noisy. its a really loud WOOOOOOOOSH from about 2100rpm. (old one was around 2900/3000rpm IIRC) and u couldnt hear it hardly
In 1st it seems to boost, but not visoucly like it should. 2nd is the same story, alltho i was hesistant to give it fulll whack incase i damaged something.
We were travelling up a hill in 5th not a massive gradient and i was doing 55mph i put my foot flat to the floor. It woooooshed but the car went nowhere and i got p to about 65mph befroe EML came on
Also the dumpvalve seems to not open/close properly its not a definate Vroooom Tishhhh like it should do. It sounds "lazy" like its openeing and shutting very very slowly if not at all!
We measure the actuater it is 13mm past the bolt.
Im sorry its taken me so long to post rather busy at work!

Oh its a 2nd hand hybrid (matt will tell u what it is i cant remember)
Im running std cav/cally mangement
All boost hoses seemed to be on fine, alltho i couldnt check on my return due to how late it was + dark, but car seemed to idle fine so it shouldnt have popped a hose off cos it would cut out

check the DV to make sure it's not leaking under boost. running rich would make it feel crap. also a leaking DV would mean you're not getting all the boost.
does the turbo only woosh when on boost or when spooling. mabe your pipe is a bit loose?
