how easy is it to fit, as i heard that you have to break the old one off to get a new one on!!!

Easy to fit - pull and at same time unscrew upwards. Then attack the green plastic bit underneath with either a little hacksaw or a pair of pliers etc (it needs to come off) then simply pop new knob on top and tighten the little grub screw that should have come with it
